Ngā Marau Pakirehua – Inquiry Curriculum
|
Although there is a specific emphasis on core curriculum areas such as reading, writing, oral and mathematical skills, inquiry learning takes into account the other areas that experiences such as science, technology and the arts fall into - which ensures that our students explore as many life areas as possible. When a member of our whanau or hapū take a child 'eeling' and teaches them the strategies regarding cultural processes, techniques and traditions, we are instilling knowledge around science, social science and technology. This is an example of cultural knowledge and how the kura might apply traditional practice and knowledge to a learning focus at kura.
Learning contexts based around traditional practices, cultural experiences can require inquiry and these learning experiences enable students to explore and investigate best practices around various areas of life. Inquiry is important to all young students - allowing them to examine, test or theorise many things in their lives. Through marau pakirehua, students will be able to acquire the process of inquiry for use in their life journeys.
